Saint Demetrius of Thessaloniki Medal Collection
Using the power of faith, Saint Demetrius of Thessaloniki slays the embodiment of evil on the obverse of the fifth collection in the Orthodox Saints program.
This holy martyr ranks among Christianity’s so-called “military saints” and enjoys particularly high esteem among Slavic peoples. Despite not being a soldier in life, traditional iconography portrays Saint Demetrius, much like Saint George, as a horseman – a successor to the ancient motif of the Thracian Rider – defeating an enemy of Christ's Church with a spear, here represented by the image of the "King of the Infidels" or the Antichrist.
The collection consists of two medals – one of 31.1 grams of silver and one of 7.78 grams of gold, each with a purity grade of 999.9. The proof quality and deep relief give them incredible aesthetic characteristics. They come in a luxury box – individually packaged or as a full collection - making them also ideal for gifting for a name day or other significant occasion.
