Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker Medal Collection
The Orthodox Saints program welcomes one of the most highly revered holy men among Slavic peoples and the patron saint of Burgas – Saint Nicholas.
Remembered for his generosity and kindness, in life the saint was archbishop of the Lycian city Myra in Asia Minor. Due to the large number of miracles attributed to Saint Nicholas, he is known as Wonderworker. Today he is considered a patron of sailors, merchants, and children.
The two medals in the collection - one of 31.1 grams of 999.9 fine silver and one of 7.78 grams of 999.9 fine gold – combine two types of Orthodox icons of Saint Nicholas. The holy man is depicted in the ceremonial garb of an archbishop. One of the most famous stories from his hagiography, in which he saved a group of sailors from a sea storm, is hinted at in the form of a background – a stormy sea with a small boat in the distance. The deep relief, along with the masterful use of a variety of textures, gives the image a picturesque feel.
The medals come in a luxury wooden box, either separately or as a pair, making them the ideal gift for Saint Nicholas’s Day, Christmas, or another special occasion.
