The 1 oz Bavarian Thaler is a premium silver medal crafted from 99.9% fine silver (31.1 g), produced by the renowned Bavarian State Mint (Bayerisches Hauptmünzamt) in Munich, Germany. First issued in 2025, this investors and collector’s piece is a modern take on the historical thalers used as official currency from the 16th century until the founding of the German Empire in 1871.

Struck in proof quality (Spiegelglanz), the obverse showcases a detailed-relief design of Neuschwanstein Castle, the world-famous 19th-century architectural masterpiece built by King Ludwig II of Bavaria. This fairy-tale castle is a symbol of Bavarian cultural identity and ranks among the most recognizable landmarks in Germany. Its enchanting beauty, along with the nearby lake, inspired Tchaikovsky’s music for the ballet Swan Lake and served as the model for the Disney castle featured in the company’s logo.

The reverse features the official Coat of Arms of Bavaria, supported by two heraldic lions – emblems of Bavarian power and sovereignty. The central shield is divided into four quarters representing the historic regions of Palatinate, Franconia, Swabia, and Upper Palatinate, with the iconic blue-and-white lozenge shield at its heart – Bavaria’s most recognized symbol. Surrounding the coat of arms is the inscription "SEIT 1158", marking the beginning of coin minting in Munich, along with "Bayerisches Hauptmünzamt – München" and the technical details "1 oz Silver .999".

This collectible is securely packaged in a protective capsule and presented in a themed gift box, ideal for display, gifting, or long-term storage.

The Bavarian State Mint, founded in 1158 in Munich, is one of the five official mints in Germany. Today, it produces a significant portion of the country’s circulation and collector coins.
