Kukeri Silver Medals Collection
Kukeri is the first collection of the new Bulgarian Customs and Traditions Program. It is inspired by the thousands of years old traditions that have preserved and carried the Bulgarian spirit through the centuries, until today. Our holidays are an interesting mix of Christian beliefs, mystical pagan customs, and rituals associated with the cycle of nature and life.
For the first time in this program, we also present the color printing of the obverse of the medals. A process that naturally transmits the sacred symbolism and message hidden behind colors in Bulgarian folklore.
The Kukeri collection presents one of the most characteristic customs associated with the end of winter and the beginning of spring - the Kukeri dances. They banish evil spirits and prepare nature for a new beginning. The medals' obverse depicts the original images of dancing men in elaborate costumes and masks typical for different parts of the country. The reverse of each medal presents a traditional Bulgarian hand embroidery from the Samokov region.
The collection includes medals made of fine silver with an investment purity of 999/1000. The different motifs are struck to different sizes - 31.1 g (1 oz) with a diameter of 45 mm, and 15.5 g (½ oz) with a diameter of 32.5 mm.
