According to the definition given by Art. 160a of the Law on Value Added Tax of the Republic of Bulgaria, investment gold

1. is gold in the form of bars or tiles of a weight accepted by the gold markets and purity equal to or greater than 995/1000;
2. are gold coins included in the order under Art 175, par 5 for which the following conditions are simultaneously met:
   • (a) their purity is equal to or greater than 900/ 1000;
   • (b) they were minted after 1800;
   • (c) they were or are legal tender in the country of origin;
   • (d) they are usually sold at a price not exceeding the value of gold at market prices contained in coins of more than 80 percent.

The special vacuum packing of the bars is usually their certificate of authenticity. The packages are provided with a thin luminescent layer that is visible only under the UV lamp. When opened and unpacked, the layer breaks its integrity, which is evidence of possible unauthorized interference.

We certify the authenticity of the investment products by placing information about the weight and purity of the gold, as well as the serial number of the bullion, on the back of the bar, in the upper left corner. On the right is the unique QR code, which, when scanned with the Certieye™ app, also authenticates the investment gold bar.

There are two standards for measuring the purity of gold - "carat" and "sample".
One carat corresponds to 1/24 of the weight of pure gold. Thus pure gold, without impurities, is 24 carats. This standard is now used mainly in jewelry. When determining the purity of investment gold, the “sample” is used. It is measured in thousands and can more accurately reflect the actual composition of the metal. Pure gold is 999.9 / 1000 sample, which represents purity of 99.99%.

Yes, according to the VAT Act of the Republic of Bulgaria, sales and purchases of investment gold are exempt from VAT.

For gold bars, the integrity of their packaging mustn't be compromised.

Otherwise, they may lose some of their investment value. The packaging, in addition to protecting the precious metal, is also their certificate of authenticity.

When you receive your bars, you should also think about where to store them. It is important that they are in a place with low humidity and not exposed to high temperatures. Home safes are a good option.

If you own larger amounts of gold, you might consider renting a safe where your bars will also be safe.
