The Austrian Ducat is minted by the Austrian Mint as a commemorative coin and bears the date of 1915 as a dedication to Emperor Franz Joseph I. The weight of the 1 ducat coin is 3.49 grams of gold 986/1000 or 3.44 grams of fine gold 999.9/1000.
What makes the gold ducats remarkable is that they are an official restrike of the Austrian Mint (coins that are minted periodically in the same type and design, and also with an unchanged year, ie. in the form in which they were first minted). Although the reverse is marked with 1915, they were not minted that year. The ducats have inherited their original design, size and gold content of 98.60%. This is one of the highest contents of the precious metal found in circulation coins. The diameter of 20.00 mm and the weight of 3.49 grams determines another characteristic of the old coins - the very small thickness - only 0.75 mm.
Today, Austrian ducats are valued and sought after by collectors and investors due to their high gold content, affordable price for investing in precious metals and historical significance.
The manufacturers offer gold and silver investment coins without a certificate.

The design of the gold ducats is by Friedrich Leisek. The obverse depicts the profile of Franz Joseph I - the longest-reigning emperor of the Austro-Hungarian Empire (from 1848 to 1916) and the inscription "FRANC IOS I D G AVSTRIAE IMPERATOR". The reverse represents the coat of arms of the Austro-Hungarian Empire - a crowned double-headed imperial eagle and the inscription: "HVNGAR BOHEM GAL LOD ILL REX A A 1915".
Ducats originated in medieval Italy and were first minted in Austria in the early 16th century. In 1857 they lost their status as legal tender, but 1 and 4 ducats were used as trade coins until 1915.
The Austrian Mint (Münze Österreich) was founded in 1194. The event that marked its beginning was the payment of a ransom of 12 tons of silver by England for the release of King Richard the Lionheart. It was paid to the Duke of Austria Leopold V Babenberg, who decided to start minting silver coins using a part of this silver. That laid the foundation of the Austrian Mint, which for more than 825 years now continues to create coins of exceptional artistic value and craftsmanship.
Today, the Mint manufactures one of the most popular fine gold and silver coins in the world, the Vienna Philharmonic, as well as the official re-strike of the Austrian Gold Franz Joseph Ducats.
